second assignment (remembered to press publish this tome......)

Older Japanese post card. This one stood out because it reminded me of older images from Japanese texts.  So, the idea that vintage post cards depicted similar images was interesting, For me, it extends the idea that Mizenko Sensei bough up early in class about how Japan sells itself in terms of tourism. I also remember hearing in Japanese Lit class about why the women were drawn in this position, as the multiple kimono weigh them down.
This was interesting because it was another alcohol ad selling women. Although, in this context we can see another layer to it. int his older ad, the company is also selling in the idea of the Navy. For me, that has two bonuses: 1. the naval man can have something to  connect with. 2. the women who support the navy can feel like  "i'm doing my part". Second point is a bit far reaching, but it's an interesting argument i found reading about these type of ads.

This was just amazing to see. I had heard of how intricate Japan's vending machines can be, and that there are even ones that serve bread and charms. But, a HELLO KITTY MACHINE!? Just another example of how Kitty stands as a huge icon.
